Course Schedule
Advanced Highers: Computing Science
Weekly Group Sessions
Our tutor-led group sessions are designed for students studying Advanced Higher Computing Science (Qualifications Scotland). These structured one-hour lessons are delivered in small groups (up to five students), either in-person at our Edinburgh centre or online.
These sessions provide a focused and engaging learning environment, allowing students to explore complex concepts in greater depth than typically possible in school. They are particularly beneficial for reinforcing classroom learning, addressing gaps in understanding, and building exam confidence.
One-to-Three / Small Group – Virtual/Remote Sessions Tuition
For a more personalised experience, we offer one-to-three and small group tuition, available both in-person and remotely.
These 60-minute sessions are tailored to the individual learner, allowing tutors to:

Course Content
The course aligns fully with the Qualifications Scotland Advanced Higher Computing Science syllabus and is structured around four core areas:
Candidates gain knowledge, understanding, and advanced practical problem-solving skills in software design and development using appropriate development environments. They build object-oriented programming and computational thinking skills by analysing, designing, implementing, testing, and evaluating solutions, and by explaining how modular programs operate. Using their understanding of data types and programming constructs, candidates develop efficient programs to solve complex problems.
Key Topics:
Candidates develop knowledge, understanding, and advanced practical problem-solving skills in database design and development through a variety of practical tasks. They use SQL to create, manage, and query relational databases. Candidates apply computational-thinking skills to analyse, design, implement, test, and evaluate database solutions using appropriate development tools. They also demonstrate interpretation skills when working with complex database features in both familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
Key Topics:
Candidates develop knowledge, understanding, and advanced practical problem-solving skills in web design and development through a range of practical and investigative tasks. They apply computational-thinking skills to analyse, design, implement, test, and evaluate solutions to web-based problems using development tools such as HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and PHP. Candidates also demonstrate interpretation skills when working with complex features in both familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
Key Topics:
Integrated Learning Methodology:
Our delivery model unifies Software Design & Development, Database Design & Development, and Web Design & Development into a single, powerful learning experience.
Instead of teaching these disciplines in isolation, learners engage in a fully integrated, project-driven approach where all skills are applied simultaneously to build complete, real-world systems.
